Unbiased Solution Research

Hy-Genie Infection Prevention and Control Solution

In depth stakeholder interviews to refine the understanding of the problem and enable a simplified solution

Front-end, user-centred research to inform the development of a solution to reduce hospital acquired infections. Working with a Director of Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC) at a North West NHS Trust, we conducted unbiased problem interviews with Infection Control teams and DIPCs at five other Trusts in the region.

The founder believed improved hand hygiene of all hospital staff was key. Our research expanded his understanding of the issue from the perspective of all stakeholders. It led to a simplification of the solution design, where ease of use and engagement was paramount, and the health economic case could be made.

This upfront research meant a low-cost prototype system could be developed and tested, leading to publication of results in an international Journal, greatly strengthening the pitch for next stage funding. See our blog "Breaking Bias for Innovation" for more detail about our findings from the user research.
