Post C-Section Underwear for Zephyr Ease

Designing and developing the solution from initial concept to market-ready product, supporting a first time entrepreneur to engage with users throughout

Through our previous relationship with the Design Council, the client approached us to help develop her concept into an early-stage device that could be tested with users: women who had recently undergone a C-Section, with no suitable product to protect their wounds during recovery.

As we had no previous experience of working on similar products, we designed a process that would engage with mums locally and nationally, to develop and test various concepts and approaches, and to establish what a minimum viable product (MVP) might look like.

As there is a scarcity of anthropometric data for women’s health in general, we collected this data from users ourselves (devising a method of providing white briefs and textile pens so mums could mark the position of their C-Section scars while standing, sitting and bending). This helped us understand where protection was required for a range of body shapes and sizes. We were able to design a single moulded foam pad to cover a very wide range of mums. Developing this idea as part of a garment allowed more testing on a representative sample of mums, to prove usability and market fit.

“Jonathan helped me turn my vision into reality. My initial concept was developed into a unique solution that all C-section mums could benefit from, regardless of their size and body-shape. Rather than just delivering a design, I had a real product that everyone loved.”
